Ghost In The Shell and Apple Seed.
Intron Depot 3: Ballistics is the third art book by the famed artist Masamune Shirow, mostly known for his work on Ghost In The Shell and Apple Seed.
In this third art book, the collection focuses on the work done Shirow from 1992-2002 in full fledge color. As the title mentions, ¨Ballistics¨ presents work focused on the military style of the artist. For example, the book features battle armors, combat soldiers, police uniforms and futuristic weaponry and vehicles. The signature style of Masamune Shirow is present in this book throughout solid lines, sharp colors, over the top costumes and sexy character design.
A new factor introduced in Ballistics is the first time use of 3D technologies for Masamune Shirow. The result is quite interesting to see. The techniques are mainly used for background, weaponry and vehicles. At first glance, the 3D graphics fit well enough with the 2D characters, but it’s when you take a moment to take a closer look that you realize the 2D and 3D don’t go together as smoothly as he probably had planned. However, it's still a welcome addition to the evolution of Masamune Shirow's art work.
On a last note, Intron Depot 3: Ballistics is a stunning book to own if you are a fan Masamune Shirow’s artwork or fan of the Japanese art style. The book contains 116 pages of stunning artwork in full color. The book is perfect to get inspired.
